Botticelli's Primavera is a celebration of Spring, an ode to fertility and freedom, as well as desire and unrequited feelings, and how transforming these are. Painted in the late 1470's, its origin is as mysterious as its history, although it is, without a shred of a doubt, one of the defining pieces of Italian Renaissance, and one of the most famous paintings in the world.
