Paul Klee famously noted that art does not reproduce the visible; rather, it makes visible. At Sock Affairs, our collaboration with the Zentrum Paul Klee is an exercise in that very principle.
The focus of this edition is Separation in the Evening (Scheidung abends), a watercolor from 1922 that stands as a testament to Klee’s tenure at the Bauhaus. It is a work of rhythmic beauty, where a series of horizontal color bands move from the deep intensity of a night sky to the warm, terrestrial tones of the earth.
The Technical Translation: To translate Klee’s delicate wash of color into a structured textile required an obsessive attention to chromatic transition. We worked to ensure the blues retained their atmospheric depth, providing a backdrop for the two arrows that anchor the piece. These symbols, representing the "separation" of the title, require exact placement to maintain the architectural integrity of the original work.
A Living Gallery: This project is born from the belief that art should be integrated into the fabric of our lives. By bringing Separation in the Evening into a wearable format, we invite you to engage with the Bauhaus movement in a way that is both personal and profound.
Whether you are a devotee of modernist theory or a collector of fine design, this edition serves as a reminder that a masterpiece is never truly finished—it continues to evolve with every wearer.
